Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12 November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first gymnast to score a 10 for a competition at the Olympics. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi later the Romanian gymnastics coach when she was only six years old. Her first competitive event was the national junior championships in which she was 13th place in the year 1969. In 1970, Comaneci won. At her first international contest in 1972, she came out on top with three gold medals. In her very first competition at a senior level Lyudmila Turkishcheva, a Russian athlete, won five gold medals aswell with one silver. She was the first woman ever to successfully perform the backwards double salto when dismounting from an uneven parallel bar. When she was in her teens, she began performing in traveling shows like Ice Capades as a skater together with her younger sister Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne is a United States citizen, born on the 6th of September, 1942, in Chicago Illinois. Carol began her career in the entertainment business as a teenager. Her first job was as a figure skater performing with her younger sister Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show called Ice Capades. Ice Capades was a show that featured ice-skating by actors.
